Title: Poland Township Police ticket my wife on her way to the emergency room
Post by: Irishbobcat on December 29, 2014, 03:18:32 AM
Sunday December 28, 2014  my wife took my youngest son with autism to the Beegley ER because his colon became inflamed and he was in extreme pain. My wife was observing all traffic laws (including watching the speed limit) when a Poland Township Police officer followed her for 2 miles and finally pulled her over. He ran her plates while he followed her and discovered the plates were registered to our old car. Apparently the dealer forgot to transfer the plates. As my son was moaning from the pain my wife explained the situation. The "friendly" officer then detained her for some 10 minutes and issued her a citation/ticket for having the "fictitious plates."

The officer offered no assistance to my wife such as calling an ambulance or escorting her to the ER.

At the ER my son was then transported by ambulance to Children's Hospital in Akron.

Thank you Poland Township Police for being more concerned about running plates for no just cause other than the fact it was 2am in the morning, detaining a person on their way to ER, and writing a ticket as well.

Again we are witness that tickets and money are more important to Poland Township Police than people.

Please keep my son in your prayers as he has remained overnight at the hospital where more tests will be run and surgery has been discussed.

Unqualified local government.  Dennis, would you  like an introduction to the trustees for a sit down complaint?

I just spoke with the chief of police in Poland Township who told me police need no reason for running vehicle checks....they can do so whenever they feel like it and that his cop was justified in writing the ticket and did not need to offer assistance if he felt it was not needed.

So what good would come out of talking to the trustees? We'll just go to court, pay the fine, and limit our drives through Poland Township.

It is obvious that the Poland area does not want people like us in their community.  This Forum member will stay away too.

A friend of mine had a similar experience in Poland Township. I too will try to avoid driving in Poland Township and thus no longer patronizing any businesses there as well.

I've had my own run-in with the Poland police. I will take the long way around anywhere before I'll drive through that uppity town.

So the hell with the Poland community. Mass punishment for everyone.  This is the same type of small backwards mentality that the culprits exhibit.  Wrong answer folks you have just shown the same characteristics of the offending party.  Response should be changing and opposing the leadership not punishing the inhabitants.

How many people from Poland refuse to come into the city to major events here because of their "fear" of having to drive down South Avenue or Market Street? Does Poland have a DeYor, Stambaugh Auditorium, Covelli, or Playhouse? And by bypassing Poland affecting the citizens of Poland, my goodness my friend, and you are my friend, Poland has been treating you like dirt with your projects.

I'm sorry, Ron....when the Poland Township Police Chief says the courts and the law allow his officers to follow you, ride your bumper, and basically have free will to run your tags daily it makes one feel like you are driving on egg shells through the township.

When the police chief simply tells you that the officer has no duty to offer or ask you if you need any assistance, why should I feel welcomed in that community?

Looks like I'll have to walk to visit you at your store or meet you downtown for a beer.

When Poland Township Police focus on helping citizens instead of ticketing them I'll be back.

It seems to me that a police escort should have been offered.  I'm sorry to hear of your

wife's problems being compounded when she was probably under a great deal of stress

to begin with.  You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers, IBC.
