Youngstown at one time really knew how to have a Thanksgiving Day Parade. This parade was in 1955 and the theme was The Wizard of Oz.

According to the Vindicator, back in the 1950's, the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade brought as many as 50,000 people downtown. After the parade, families would head off to Strouss's or McKelvey's so that their little ones could visit Santa. Everywhere there was the sounds of the season.
Sadly those days are gone and will never again return, and again, sadly things are just not the same in the major shopping areas in Boardman, Liberty, or Austintown. There simply was something special and unique about the downtown area on that day that was so special.
