I'm getting signs that the Library Board is about to move the West Side Library to the Wick Recreation Area in Mill Creek Park.
Is this a bad thing? ???
Many West Side Library patrons like the current location and want the existing building upgraded.
Does the possible new location in the Wick Recreation Area have better
facilities? Might make sense to do the move if the new facilities are in
better condition, since the library system is already struggling, financially
Friend Jay, (and you are my friend) the West Side Library Community Input Group which is made up of residents of the West Side of our beloved but much maligned city of Youngstown voted 9 – 1 in favor of moving the West Side Library to the warmer house of the former ice skating rink at Mill Creek Park's James L. Wick Jr. Recreation Area off McCollum Road.
Now I don't know the exact number of votes that were cast, how the voting was conducted, or any of the other details, but perhaps you in your infinite wisdom can shed some light on this for us.
I would love to know who cast the lone "NO" vote. I'm sure I'll find out soon.
It's my understanding that the committee was not made up entirely of west side (4th ward) residents. Three were appointed by Fourth Ward Councilman Mike Ray. Three were appointed by Fifth Ward Councilman Paul Drennen. Two were picked by the Library Director. I've also heard that a member for the library board was also on the committee.
I'm confused ... isn't the 5th Ward on the west side also, if not, what side of town is it geographically on?
The Fifth Ward is on the West Side and the South Side.
The Fifth Ward had its own library in Cornersburg years ago.

But Cornersburg has no branch today, so it would be a win win for everyone on the West Side.

The move would be from the depressed Mahoning Avenue area to the more stable area closer to the Fifth Ward.
