There is another water line break on McCollum Road right across from the No.15 Fire Station driveway. It's a small leak but water is being splashed onto the road as cars pass on the curve. It may become icy at this location. The City Water Department already has this leak on the repair list.
I'm surprised that there have been only a few water main breaks this winter,
with all the harsh temperatures. The majority of Youngstown's water system
pipes are around 80 years old, or more from what I've read online.
A couple of years ago I read somewhere that the city water system loses as
much as 20 percent of its water due to leaks, from one end to the other.
This water line break was repaired today. It caused quite a traffic jam as the west bound lane had to be rerouted through some neighborhood streets. All is well tonight.
