Title: Winter Heating
Post by: Towntalk on October 10, 2013, 08:02:19 AM
Look for at least a 13% increase in your natural gas bill this winter.

So even though through Fracking we are producing more and more natural gas we cannot keep up with demand because as promised Obama's EPA is putting coal plants out of business and causing energy prices to skyrocket....

I believe I have that right....

Where is this alleged shortage of natural gas going to come from?

I read article after article regarding surpluses  online that says how  production, transportation keep ramping
up - including exports to Mexico, etc.  So which is true - shortage or surplus?

I don't think closing of coal burning power plants has any appreciable effect on LNG prices if all of the news
articles from so many varied sources are saying the same things regarding supply and demand.  Natural gas
prices fell over several years now - if prices are going up, I suspect manipulation of the market to inflate
prices.

Instead of closing coal-fired power plants, why not convert them to gas?  MUCH cleaner exhaust means
less costly treatment of exhaust gases versus coal, nice: no "scrubbing" required.  Same power plant serving
the same customers from the same location - just powered by a different fuel.

Empirical observation:  My "budget payment" for my gas bills at my property by Wick park is about half of what
it used to be just a few years back.

These NG suppliers are going to rip us off no matter what.  If they want to achieve a certain profit for next year, they will just raise the price 13% for next year.

Allen, What I was led to believe (and I forget where I read it) coal plants are supposedly being converted to Natural Gas, and this is what is driving up the price....

Honestly, I don't believe any of them any more....

well, so far my heating costs have remained at their lowest level since I bought the property.

It will be interesting to see what they're like this winter.  I've added a little insulation to the
place since I bought it' and just replaced the hot water tank with a high efficiency model.
Furnace is also high efficiency.
