Youngstown City Council recently voted to grant a 75% ten year tax abatement to a South Meridian Road catering hall.
Don't we have enough catering halls on the west side already?
How many catering halls are there on the west side now? Where is this new one to be at?
I thought that you were four square for all the businesses that could be located on the West Side so that you could boom them here. I didn't hear you being negative about all the restaurants that were located in the downtown area. If this new banquet hall can offer services that attract business, more power to them. Obviously the owners felt that location was better than other sections of the city. I wish them success in their endever.
Tax Abatement
City Council is essentially giving a subsidy to a new business to compete with several other established west side catering halls. The existing catering halls are far from being booked solid.
Isn't that what they did with some of the restaurants downtown?
Ten Years is a long time --- What kind of incentives did all these new "establishments" receive that are downtown. Then what happens if the business doesn't last 5 years let alone 10 years. These are very difficult times for "stand alone" catering halls. What does happen if they close after a few years - will they get 75% off their taxes? I wish them well ! ! ! If they are eligible and apply how can you NOT give them the abatement ???
