During World War Two, what song did the allies use to mask coded messages to the French underground?
If my Memory serves (I'm not that old but I've read a lot and talked to a lot of veterans from WW2)
That would be Beethoven's 5th symphony.....
Absolutely true.
The First Movement was a perfect cover for the coded transmissions that were sent through a sub-frequency. Obviously the Germans knew that something was going on becauseof the number of times this movement was being played, but because of changes in the sub-frequency they were not able to read the coded messages.
