Kids did swim in the river back then, the best spot being around Baldwin's Flour Mill near Spring Commons.
Since the major topic here of late is the D & L scandle, it is appropiate that we see what the river looked like before the steel mills polluted it. As can be seen, the river was wider than it is today.
