In the election of 1808 James Madison became the first President that the men of Youngstown had the chance to vote for.

This area actually was heavily Republican during much of our heyday. When an area declines it shifts Democrat, and that assures that the area never recovers.

George Clinton – 1809 to 1812
Elbridge Gerry – 1813 to 1894

Political Party: Democratic – Republican Party


His opponent in the 1808 was John Randolph - Democratic – Republican Party (Old Republican Party)
