Speaking of hang-outs, does anyone remember the West Side Dairy at the corner of Mahoning and Hazelwood? That was one of my hangouts when I went to the old Chaney.

When I was a kid, that dairy was an Isalys.  My brother and I would ride our bikes up and order chocolate milkshakes.  They were served in the chilled metal containers from which you could pour two servings worth.  That's one delicious memory.

The map shows where the West Side Dairy and Isalys were in 1953.

1. West Side Dairy
2. Chaney Drugs
3. Isaly's

One of the items that I loved was a blend of several flavors of pop and a scoop of ice cream. It looked simply awful but was really good, and I ordered it every day so the watress at the West Side Dairy automatically made it for me when I came in.
