I'm sorry about the quality of the pictures, but they were taken with my cellphone.
The first 2 are obviously of the new gymnasium. On the outside, this is the lage part of the building on Overlook that has the curved roof.
The second 2 are of the corridor on the 3rd floor of the new academic addition.
The first image in this group is of a science classroom on the 3rd floor with some of the casework in.
The second image is of the entrance near the gym, facing Overlook.
The third image is of the new media center (library) under construction. This is where the old library used to be on the Hazelwood side of the building.
The last picture is just for fun. There really isn't any indication of what will be here, yet. This is the old auditorium with most of the ceiling being demolished.
I'll try to post more pictures when I can.
Thanks for looking!
I was able to visit again, today. So, here are some new pictures.
The first picture is of a finished lab.
The second is of the new cafeteria. It's been in use by the school for awhile now, and the tables have been moved out of the way by the district, to clean the floors, I guess.
The third is from what will be a music room. (band, I think)
The last picture in this post is just another picture from the same music room looking back at the old building.
The first 2 in this post are of the continuing demolition in the old auditorium
The second 2 are of demolition that has been done since school has been out for the summer. :o
On this latest trip to Chaney, the summer interns got to come along. One of them took the following pictures with a real camera--not just a cell phone.
The first pictures are from completed areas of the building. Some parts are already being used.
The fourth picture in this post marks the beginning of pictures taken of the ongoing construction in the old building. This is a hole in the wall, and if you look carefully, you can see down into the auditorium.
The 2nd picture in this post is what's left of the old cafeteria. This area will look very different from the original building, when we're done.
The 3rd picture is looking through the opening where the administration area used to be.
These 2 are of the continuing work in the auditorium. The original structure will remain exposed, so it's been cleaned and painted black.
This is a panorama of the courtyard. I guess this used to be teacher parking. The new rooms directly across from the photographer are art rooms. Then, to the right, is the new cafeteria.
And finally, for tonight, a panorama of the new gym fully complete.
Very cool pics.
Thank you!
I hope the courtyard doesn't go the way of many school courtyards... closed for use.
It seems schools always close them.
I'm glad you liked the photos. I was beginning to wonder if anyone cared. :)
Unfortunately, it's commonly believed in the office that they will keep the courtyards closed. (there is another on the other side of the cafeteria) But, who knows what the school district will do?
Why have them if they are closed?
Kind of a waste of space and expensive weatherproof building materials.
just my 2 cents
Actually, they do serve a purpose, even if they are not used. Their primary purpose is to allow natural light into the building per the building code requirements.
Point taken. Although, it seems pretty big to be only for light.
It's been awhile, but here are some new construction pictures. They are of poor quality again because I just used my phone, and it was a dark, dreary morning.
The first two pics are where the cafeteria was.(The first from the corridor, and the second from in the room) This will be a major intersection in the building and extra space would be needed here.
The third picture is of the progress in the auditorium. I had another from the opposite corner, but it's too blurry to use. ::)
The first picture in this post is of what will be the new main student entrance.
The second picture is of one of the classrooms in the 1966 addition, with a new window configuration.
The last picture is of the old gym. We aren't making any major modifications to this room, but we are leaving the original structure exposed, and it will be painted white.
I only have a few pics this time because I didn't have the opportunity to take more.
The first 2 are of the progress in the library/media center
The 3rd is outside the "multi-use classroom" where the cafeteria was.
The last picture is at the new student entrance. They just need to install the display case, and this area will be almost ready to give to the district.
Last week, one of our interns was home from school, and was able to go out and take some decent pictures of the work at Chaney. We're on the home stretch.
The image attached to this post is a panoramic of the auditorium.
Here are pictures of the progress in the media center/library.
Unfortunately, the batteries in his camera died before he could take more pictures of other parts of the building.
Wow! That library looks fantastic! I toured the completed portion of the building in September with fellow alums from the class of '66. The principal mentioned at the time that they hoped to open the library for community use in the evenings once it was completed. Have you heard anything along those lines? I was skeptical at the time.

I can't speak for the school administration; I don't know whether or not they will open the library to the public. But we did design that space so it could be easily used by the public. (mostly just a controlled access issue)
The auditorium is almost done. Only the seats remain, and the guy on the floor is laying them out. All of the boxes on stage are the seats.
Other view.
Since things are a little slow at work today, ;) I have a little time to post another picture of the CHS auditorium with the new seats installed. Now, I think the only thing left to do is the carpet and aisle light installation.
Here are 2 pictures of the progress in the media center.
Here is one more in the media center, and a picture looking down one of the original corridors.
More new phone pictures taken last Friday.
1. Not much visible progress in the old gym. But, the structure should be painted this week.
2. Just a picture of the second floor corridor looking toward the old gym.
3. Here is a nearly finished classroom in the original building.
4. This is a nearly finished classroom in the 1966 addition.
1. Progress at the administration area
2. Progress outside the multi-use classroom. The old concrete floor was about to be ground smooth for the new flooring.
3. The nearly complete life-skills kitchens on the second floor--in the old building.
4. Maybe it's because I'm still new to this profession, and haven't seen a lot of finished construction, but I'm very impressed with the work that Coates Construction has done on this building. This picture is an example. Some may remember that there used to be two windows at this part of the building overlooking the roof over the old main entrance. But, there is no evidence of that second window anymore.
I know it's been awhile, but here is the next installment of pictures from the work at Chaney HS. I took my camera this time--my phone just doesn't cut it when trying to illustrate the finished product.
1. The old main entry is almost done--just a few touch ups, and I also think they will strip/clean the floor.
2. Entrance to the Media Center. They were laying carpet in there, so I didn't want to track in any dirt to take pictures. (Not much has changed in here, anyway.)
3. Entrance to the administration area. Again, they're *almost* done.
4. Inside the admin area.
5. A view down at the newly refinished stage from the new light bridge in the old auditorium.
6. Just an "artsy" picture looking out across the auditorium ceiling through the acoustical panels
7. Finally, a view of progress in the old gym. The old floor will be lightly sanded and refinished.
I guess I'll make one last reply here. The school is just about finished, and there are no more job meetings. Therefore, I no longer have the opportunity to photograph the construction progress. (there isn't much more to see anyway)
I would encourage anyone who has been following this thread to visit Chaney HS when they have a public tour.
