Title: They're Back - Occupy Youngstown On New Years Eve
Post by: jay on January 01, 2012, 11:10:18 AM
Occupy Youngstown was back on Central Square for New Years Eve.   The group added to the holiday lightings, conducted face paintings, and passed out some literature.

Discussing the Politics of the Occupy Movement

A roundtable discussion with students and activists either directly involved with Occupy Wall St. or who are closely following the #Occupy movement.

What's the difference between a communist colaberative and an American colaberative, or a communist activeist and its American counterpart?

You have the right to look for a job and to apply for a job.

But if you are a worthless lazy scumbucket I doubt you would get one,  and certainly you don't have a right to one.
It's called earning your living. Personal responsibility, all that good stuff that the country is based upon...

iwasthere, you don't understand what a "right" is if you think a job is a "right".  A job is a construct brought about largely by the industrial revolution.  Before then there was no such thing as a hundred or thousand people all gathering together at one place and doing the bidding of an employer.  Everyone worked for themselves or as an apprentice or helper.  The Founders would not have made a job a right even if it existed in 1787 as it does not fit the definition of a natural right.  It requires the actions of others to secure that right for you.

In reality, since society did not vote to create you, society has not obligation to take care of you or give you a means to support yourself.  All that society owes you is an opportunity to find a way to support yourself.  It is up to you to do what it takes to survive.

Some very logical points Rick. Nowhere at law can we find any law that orders that an employer hire anyone with the exceptions of those that apply to minority hiring, so therefore no one can take a case to court ordering company XYZ to hire them because XYZ would be in violation of some vague provision of the Constitution either State or Federal; and by the same token, the Supreme Court would strike down any law that Congress would pass mandating employers to hire every Tom, Dick or Harry that walked through the door asking for work. In the end, the only rights that we have are those clearly enunciated in the Constitution or in settled law.

if one wants to live in a healthy society, everyone should do their darnest to make sure jobs are plentiful in their community to avoid dissatified indviduals making war against each other.

You too are right iwasthere. Unfortunately our state and federal agencies have thrown so many stumbling blocks in the path of innovation that its easier to import than manufacture here.

I don't know if you are familiar with The Federal Regester, but it's published daily by the GPO and contains all the new regulations that the alphabet agencies dream up.

These agencies dream up new roadblock regulations and cause them to be published in the FR. A time line is set for comment, and at the end of the time they automatically become official unless Congress steps in to say NO, and that is as rare as the proverbial hen's tooth.

Since most small businesses can't hire people to wade through the FR they get caught up in tons of red tape that could very well put them out of business and into bankruptcy.

In effect the alphabet agencies have supplanted Congress in law making and Congress allows it to happen without so much as a whimper.
