Sometime around 9:00 p.m. this evening I heard a large thump and the house shook. Was that an earthquake?
Another Earthquake Shakes Valley
For the sixth time this year, an earthquake centered around the Mahoning River west of Youngstown shook the Valley.
The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed a 2.5-magnitude earthquake centered in the Mineral Ridge area occurred at 8:53 p.m. The tremor's epicenter was 1 mile southwest of McDonald and 6 miles northwest of Youngstown.
The earthquake spanned a 7.5-mile area and was 1.8 miles in depth, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Calls started flooding the newsroom just before 9 p.m. from residents in Girard and McDonald, as well as residents on the North Side of Youngstown. Reports also came in from Boardman, Liberty and Youngstown's East Side. A woman from Girard said items fell off their shelves in her basement.
Other callers said they heard a loud "boom" and felt their house shake.
A 2.6-magnitude earthquake centered around the Brier Hill area occurred about 9 p.m. Sunday. On Sept. 2, a 2.2-magnitude tremor occurred in about the same area.
On Aug. 25, a 2.4-magnitude earthquake hit a little further west, just two days after a 5.8-magnitude earthquake occurred in Virginia and was felt in Ohio and Pennsylvania. A 2.2-magnitude earthquake occurred Aug. 22 in almost the same exact area.
A 2.6-magnitude tremor occurred March 17 on the border of Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

??? I'm confused, the WKBN story seems to differ from The Vindicator regarding the location or is it that they are giving the same location in different words? ???

Seems as though the Vindy was pretty vague on the location. WKBN was more specific... My Brother called from the west side to ask if we felt it. I didn't feel a thing in Lowellville.
