Title: Historical Photo Of Warren Mass Transit
Post by: jay on September 14, 2011, 08:42:46 AM
This old photo is on the outside wall of one of the buildings on Courthouse Square in downtown Warren.

Questions

Which transit system's buses are pictured in this photo?

Roughly when was the photo taken?  We might be able to tell by the model year of the cars.

Since the vehicles are blurry, it's difficult to tell exactly.  The least blurry car in the foreground could be: a 53-54 buick, a 55-56 Oldsmobile, or a 1957 Chevrolet. (or something else, entirely)

Unless I'm mistaken, Warren did at one time have a privately ownedbus line - The Warren Transportation Company and like westsider I would place the photo in the mid 1950's.

For those who might be interested, there is a collection of 38 historic Warren pictures at:

;) I used to ride those things all the time. They ran most times? They were dirty. Diesel. They could have been purchased around the early 50's. They were  for small cities, about 32 seated passengers. There was no Mini-buses like we have now. I remember they used them on school runs also. We got these small buses on my route. There were two routes. The other route always got a longer one used for Charters. They had it backwards. Our route could have used the bigger buses. The other one only needed the small one.
