Title: Bashing the Arts
Post by: jay on March 21, 2006, 06:18:22 AM
Over the last few days, some citizens on another local message board have taken the liberty of bashing the arts and artists of the city.  If you don't like the visual or performing arts, please keep in mind that these artistic endeavors help to keep many buildings occupied.  The following downtown buildings are associated with the arts:  Powers Auditorium, The Oakland Center for the Arts, The SMARTS Center,  and Stambaugh Auditorium.  The Mahoning Commons area is home to the Victorian Players, Easy Street Productions,  and the Ward Bakery building's Tip Top Gallery and Artists of Mahoning Commons.

I also forgot to mention the McDonough Museum of Art, the Pig Iron Literary & Art Works, the Ray Simon Art Studio, and Steeltown Studios.

I don't think we were bashing the arts.  We were discussing the contribution of the arts to economic development or the lack thereof.
