COLUMBUS, Ohio --

The incoming Ohio governor is adding the state's Division of Liquor Control to the list of possible services that he might privatize.

Governor Elect John Kasich on Friday told reporters he had gotten a memo that privatizing the agency that regulates the sale of alcohol could net $1 billion for the state.

Kasich, who takes office Monday, says state officials have to think about privatizing services as a way to save money.

Ohio faces the prospect of an $8 billion gap in its coming two-year budget.

Kasich says he anticipates privatizing some prison services. His administration also is looking at leasing the Ohio Turnpike to a private operator.

The Ohio Turnpike Commission currently operates the 241-mile toll road across northern Ohio.
