Don't forget that the Republican Party started out as a third party.

Founded by anti-slavery expansion activists in 1854, it is often called the Grand Old Party or the GOP, despite being the younger of the two major parties.

Founded in Ripon, Wisconsin, in 1854 by anti-slavery expansion activists and modernizers, the Republican Party quickly surpassed the Whig Party as the principal opposition to the Democratic Party. It first came to power in 1860 with the election of Abraham Lincoln, a former Whig, to the presidency and presided over the American Civil War and Reconstruction.

There is simply no way Jim Traficant or any other politician will build a successful third party. Our electoral system is a plurality system, where the candidates with the most votes gets the seat or office. Third parties can never get a foot hold. In countries that use the porportional representation system you will find active third party participation, because seats are won according to the proportion of the vote that the candidates win. In other words, in the current system you will never have third party representative until one of their candidates wins a majority vote, which is nearly impossible. In Countries that use porportional representation, if a third pary candidate gets 20% of the vote the party gets 20% of the seats, thus a chance to participate.

I remember when Ross Perot started his "Reform" party, I met people who were solidly on the right, and people who were solidly on the left who supported it. I said, wait until they have their first convention and try to come up with a platform; it will be a riot, which is exactly what happened. So anyone who thinks they're going to unite a very disparate group of dissatisfied voters into a viable third party is just dreaming. If Ross Perot couldn't do it, what chance does Jim Trafficant have.
