Downtown Is A Skate Park

Some folks just have no vision Rick. Did anyone ever consider entering into talks with V&M Star Steel about acquiring those buildings?

The area occupied by the Wean United buildings has been in an industrial use since the 1850s and should remain an industrial use.  Those buildings are incredibly historic and deserve to be reused instead of demolished.  There is a real shortage of large buildings with high capacity cranes, and the oil and gas industry could certainly make use of those structures. 

The engines that powered the world's first Ferris Wheel were made in those buildings.  Likewise for the operating mechanism for the Panama Canal gates.  The oldest structure is the brick building constructed in the 1880s.  To the west is the Tod foundry, and to the east is the erecting shop built in 1902.  All of that part of William Tod Co. until 1916 when it became United Engineering.  The long, tall structure was built by United and has 200 ton cranes.  Those building should stay and be reutilized, and the city should make them available to anyone who wishes to invest their money to do so.

i am all for a skate pk aslong the skaters do not turn out to be the same grp of trouble makers from the struthers skate pk grp.

yeah I just heard about that for the first time today..... feelings are mixed. Would love to see that space utilized differently.

If the news about companies looking at the Wean complex pan out, that might not happen (skate park under the Market Street Bridge that is.).
