Just Heard On The Street
A North Phelps Street businessman has been locked out of his business and can not gain access to his building to retrieve his belongings.
Note - It was reported months ago that the same building was sold at sheriff's sale.
I take it you are speaking of Jim from Pig Iron Press.
I walked past the business this morning. The building is full of stuff. There is a rotting pumpkin in the front window.
It may take a year to clean that place out.....sorry to see this happen.....A better business model probably could have kept this place afloat.....
What do people expect when they don't pay bills? The building was sold months ago. Plenty of time to move those items.
New locks and deadbolts have been installed.
New owner has given Jim 24 hours this weekend to remove as many belongings as possible.....
I heard tonight the whole move fell through. Apparently Jim could not get into the building this weekend. Needless to say he is very upset......
What has he been doing for the four months since the building was sold?
Apparently not removing his belongings.....
Nothing new to report. The building is still full of stuff.
I can't believe the new owners are paying a mortgage and letting the building sit unused for months......Looks like no one wants to haul all that stuff out......
I blame it on ytown first nite entertainment committee
I'm sure Trump and the Russians are involved as well......
Uncle tony from Belmont as well
Did he end up getting his stuff out???
Didn't he have a cat inside????
It would be a great place for spies and other agents to meet...
Right under the windows of the fbi drug enforcement agency. ;D
Question
Is the Pig Iron Press Building being cleaned out this weekend?
Removing items have been taking place all week....but there are still 2 whole floors that have to be removed......Maybe by Christmas......lots of stuff!!!!
Who bought the building?? (Lazy-I don't want to check the Auditors website)
And, what are they going to do with this building?
Downtown circle owner for his hooka bar.
Hookah lounges are mostly found in college towns (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_town) and urban areas (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urban_area) and are regarded by some as a novel and chic way to socialize and embrace multiculturalism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiculturalism), but not only that. Certain lounges offer modern hookahs with fruit bowls or other kinds of improvements over smoking hookah at home. Some people of Middle Eastern (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_East) or South Asian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Asia) extraction consider them a continuation of their own cultural traditions. Hookah lounges nowadays often distance themselves from the eastern cultures offering hookah and alcohol without the cultural elements. These bars differ from other bars only in the fact that they offer hookah.
Typically a disposable mouthpiece is provided for each user forhygiene (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hygiene) reasons. Hookah lounges do not typically have liquor licenses (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquor_license) but instead derive the bulk of their revenue from sales of coffee (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee), tea (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea), soft drinks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soft_drink)and snack foods (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snack_food). Almost all offer Turkish coffee (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_coffee). Some hookah lounges have well-equipped kitchens and are more akin to bistros (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bistro). In the broadest sense, any restaurant (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restaurant) or nightclub (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightclub) can be considered a hookah lounge if it offers patrons hookahs, shisha and a comfortable place to smoke. Some offer Middle Eastern cuisine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_Eastern_cuisine) menu items. Due to state anti-tobacco laws, many hookah bars have made the transition from smoking traditional shisha to smoking herbal shisha because it contains no tobacco, or nicotine and is legal indoors in areas specific to the prohibition of tobacco smoking. Herbs do produce tar when they burn.
Not my type of hangout....
I looked through the front window of the Pig Iron Press Building this week. Most of the contents on the first floor have been removed.
The operator of Pig Iron Press is looking for a new location to set up shop.
Any suggestions?
There are a couple of locations on East Midlothian Blvd. but if he chose one of them he would not be able to turn it into a pig sty like his downtown location. His downtown store was nothing more than a dump the way he kept it. I'm amazed that the city didn't get on his back about the trashey way he kept his shop.
Any suggestions?
There is a storefront for rent next to Youngstown Plumbing on Mahoning Avenue.
There are a lot of locations in the city I bet have cheap rent....
What sort of location is he looking for? What will he be doing at a new location?
There's space to rent inside the former Ward Bakery Building on Mahoning Avenue. This is where many artists have their studios.
The question is what is the store coming back as? A printing press or used bookstore or both? I have seen a few used bookstores go out of business in the past few years. Do printing presses still make money these days?
pip has two possible sites one in struthers, oh and the other in jackson township, oh.
