This is an example of liquid tar being used to seal the cracks in asphalt pavement to prevent further water penetration.  This is not being done on our streets at this time.

???We have too many potholes on the streets of Youngstown.  There are ways of preventing some of them.  In the photo below, you are able to see how potholes have developed along the seam in the road where the center lane of asphalt meets the curb lane of asphalt.  If liquid tar had been applied to the seam, water would not have penetrated and caused the asphalt to break apart during the freeze thaw cycle.  Simple maintenance would have prevented the need to patch the potholes and the costly resurfacing that will have to take place much sooner.
