The man wanted in connection to a Tuesday morning murder on Youngstown's South Side was arrested in Akron Wednesday afternoon.

Emmett Perkins IV, 25, of Youngstown, was taken into custody without incident by the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force and Youngstown police, according to Youngstown Police Chief Rod Foley.

Perkins is accused of shooting Frank Whitted, 28, in the chest about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at 422 W. Princeton Ave. Whitted later died at St. Elizabeth Health Center and police obtained a murder arrest warrant for Perkins on Tuesday.

A woman and 2-year-old child, who were also in the home at the time of the shooting, were unharmed. Perkins, according to a search of court records, was sentenced to 30 days in jail in 2008 after pleading no contest to charges of assault, child endangering and criminal damage. Charges were amended from felonious assault.
