VICTORY! An Empty Stocking for Big Coal

Thanks to thousands of Sierra Club members and supporters who called, emailed and faxed their state senators and representatives this holiday season, Ohio's coal industry is finishing the year with a very empty stocking. Senate Bill 386, the industry's attempt to devastate the regulatory structure for coal mining in Ohio, was stripped of almost every single provision by the time it passed the Ohio House. In one memorable moment during a Senate committee hearing, Senator Niehaus from southern Ohio waved a stack of faxed papers above his head that had come from Sierra Club members urging him to vote no on the bill. Great job to our members, our allies, and what a great gift to Ohio this holiday season! Once again, thank you for everything that you do to protect the environment and move Ohio beyond coal.
