I was told that the WRTA had buses that ran on natural gas back in the 90's.  But, for a reason I'm not aware of, they sold them to Akron.

Someone in President Obama's transition team was saying "Never waste a perfectly
good crisis".

WRTA should use the current crisis situation to solicit bailout money to go greener
with their vehicles - by either retrofitting them, or with bailout money to make
some new purchases.  President Obama is working to put monies out there for
stuff like this - never waste a perfectly good crisis, folks!

DC is loaded with "Clean Air Buses" running on natural gas, and they are cheaper
to operate than their diesel counterparts, as well as WAY better as far as
emissions.  Natural gas makes good sense as a transition to what comes next,
which would be fuel cells, etc.  Oh yeah, they run a little quieter too...

The net savings from natural gas would help them at a time when they need it
most, and the government could end up footing the bill for the changeover.
Operating costs for fuel would no longer be so extremely volatile, and therefore
more predictable.  Money saved from fuel costs can be used to help stabilize the
WRTA.

This is like a breath of fresh air. We hear so much about job losses, retirement dollars losses, health care benefits losses, bonuses & raises losses that it good to hear that we gained something and for the better!
