We've been through this many times, and folks that were and are involved with the EDATA CAB have good working knowledge of what the OEPA wants, as do folks at YSU, so there should be a lot of good input, and I'm sure that the folks from EDATA who are experts in dealing with both the EPA and O-EPA will give credable input. These are the folks that OPEA wants to hear from.

Why?Town

Considering that the EPA has certain standards that have to be met and that the general population, for the most part, has little if any real knowledge about specific pollutants, I wonder why there is a need for public input on this matter.

Maybe I'm just more clueless than the rest?

Public Invited to Comment on Draft Air Permit Issued to V&M Star

A draft air permit for a proposed Mahoning County mill expansion will be the focus of a February 12, 2009, Ohio EPA public meeting. The information session and public hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Youngstown City Hall, 26 S. Phelps Street.

The meeting is an opportunity for citizens to ask questions and submit comments concerning a draft air permit issued to V&M Star for a proposed expansion of existing operations and to install new operations to support its facility located at 2669 Martin Luther Blvd., Youngstown.

Ohio EPA's air permit establishes limits on emissions and the operation, and requires the use of best available control technology to restrict emissions. Emissions limits are established to ensure compliance with federal clean air standards and protect public health. The draft permit sets limits on the following pollutants: particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds and lead.

Comments can be submitted to Ohio EPA through the close of business on February 17, 2009. Written comments may be submitted at the hearing or mailed to Ed Perez, Ohio EPA Northeast District Office, 2110 E. Aurora Road, Twinsburg, Ohio 44087.

V&M Star's draft air permit is available online at: www.epa.state.oh.us/dapc/permits_issued/235964.pdf.
