A recent article in the Youngstown newspaper states that Joe Rafidi is the first announced candidate for the seventh ward council seat.

Found this on Chris' facebook site:
.

Just a word that the T4Y blog will be undergoing some remodeling for a while. Expect it to come back in 2015. Probably with an important announcement.

Yes, he posted on Facebook a week or so ago that he was closing his website to redesign it and will be back in January with , hopefully, an important announcement.
If that is what I HOPE it is, then city council will be getting one of the best men in this city.

Yep.  She had all of her anti-fracking people behind her.

Chris will be running for the 7th ward council seat, where he lives, and is well-known, respected, and loved.
IF anyone runs against him, I'm sure he'll win by a landslide.

Sue is a North Sider PD, so she is no threat to Chris who has as Peggy has said has a great reputation in the 7th Ward where it will count. Further, he has the respect of all the businesses in the 7th Ward.

Merry Christmas my friend.

Chris was one of the spokespersons for the ward reduction ballot issue.  The WYBC may organize against him.

For those of us who don't know what WYBC is, PLEASE CLARIFY or is this some deep dark secret that people are terrified of identifying for fear of becoming a victim of some vandetta or bodily injury, and what does it have to do with the 7th Ward? I think that the people of the 7th have enough God given intelligence to see through the fog of politics and do not need outsiders telling them who they should or should not vote for.

Youngstown warren black caucus

Don't be suprised if there isn't a major push from them
I heard Victoria Turnage Allen is going to run in the 7th ward.
It's not necessarily about who a group of people likes but it's about if the people will step up and work for that candidate

I have seen many favorites lose because they assumed they had it in the bag

We witnessed that with the ward reduction.  Many people, the same people that said travers will win also thought the reduction would win but in the end only a handful of people actually stepped up and did the work

Mike Write and Julius Kingsly Oliver in the first ward
Tj Rodgers second ward
Nate Pinkard and Rick Alli 3 rd ward
Mike Ray and no one so far in the 4th ward
5th ward so far about 8 people have expressed interest. 5th ward picked up a nice portion of the west side and lost a big portion of the south side.
Idora and Indian trails in the 5th but these areas have been built up nicely
6th ward Anita Davis and someone else

No, Vicky can't run for the 7th ward seat because she' now lives in the 6th ward due to the new boundaries.
I wouldn't be surprised if she runs for Janet Tarpley's seat though.

the sixth is not a done deal. there are people that are thinking abt running  for this seat that were part of the former seventh ward. these people are very active in the community and they will be breath of fresh air that are not worried abt their political careers.

Nate is a good person and could be a good councilman if he stops going along with  Tarpley and Gillam and Rodgers all the time

There are only 450 or so registered republicans in the city of Youngstown
250 of them are registered in the 5th ward
Plato Kalfas ran as a republican ran against Paul Drennen in 2011
Drennen won with 89+% of the vote
I don't see republicans winning but many some very strong independents
And I mean very strong

The folks in the 3rd Ward are very happy with Nate and when I was living on the North Side I had some good dealings with him. The problem as I see it is that folks that don't live in the 3rd ward think that they know more about him than those who do. If you can't vote for or against him, then your views don't count. Because I moved away from the 3d Ward in April, aside from the above view, I trust the 3rd Ward voters to use their good judgement.

The point I was trying to make is that Nate doesnt need Tarpley and Gillam. He is strong enough on his own, smart and an all aroind good guy

He's very cooperative with his neighborhood associations, and businesses, as well as parks. He has both Wick Park and Crandall Park in his ward.
And he pushed hard with the Federal gov't to hurry along the financial approval to resurface Fifth Ave.  It wasn't slated to be resurfaced until next year, but he got it pushed up a year.
Very good man.

You mean "Tar-pit" (stuck on herself) and "Gilligan's Island"?  (In a world of their own, out of touch with
reality.... and outdated....)

The Gillam dynasty needs to end - the sooner the better.  Tarpley needs to go also.  I'm an independent who
Votes according to track record, reputation of a candidate.  IF I WERE a Republican running against Gillam(s)
I would ask voters if they REALLY want to see them circumvent term limits by doing the husband/wifey trick.

I would also ask the voters to look at Gillams' and Tarpley's list of accomplishments and what have they
done to help their wards during their tenure in office.

1. Lets please seperate the other wards from this thread and give them threads of their own, for heaven knows there is a whale of a lot that could be discussed about each, especially the 1st and 6th.

2. As for Gillam, even if Mr.Gillam decides not to run, the WYBC thinks that they own the 1st ward lock, stock and barrel, and if a white candidate dared to challange him the central committee would go on the warpath, because the WYBC wants nothing less than 100% control of Youngstown, and only allow token representation for whites, if that. You can bet that after they've gained control of the 7th ward, they'll go after the 4th and 5th using the same argument.

It doesn't matter (to me) what race runs for council, as long as they DO THE JOB and do it well.

Yes, let's do separate the wards/council seat discussions.

Many of the names mentioned so far are from neighborhood associations.  Our community might finally have a choice from a field of candidates who actually have done some work in the community prior to the election.

Amen, Jay.

People who are "new blood" and have a demonstrated record of "I DO GIVE A SH** ABOUT MY
NEIGHBORHOOD".

If Phil Kidd ever does decide to run for council, he would WIN.  Hell, he could probably be the
next Mayor of Youngstown.

Because she is an independent and always has been.  Same question I asked because I think she could win the primary
The question for travers might be why run as a democrat when he ran as an independent for prez of council
I really dont do twitter but it looks like her.
I think she will bring a fresh perspective to Youngstown and will work well with the new class coming in.
I plan on aggressively helping her campaign and with resources
Just for the record I am a democrat but will always back who I feel is the best choice

For my part, I am a Mavrick Demopublican, contrary, opinionated, self centered, and outspoken, so I don't fit into any mold.
When I regestrated for the first time, the lady asked me my party affiliation looking her square in the eye, I said "Communist", and after the shock wore off I told her, Democratic with Republican leanings so she simply put down Democrat just to be done with me when Congressman Kirwin chanced to walk in and after proper greetings befitting my HERO, he asked her if I was giving her grief, and turning back to me invited me downstairs to Isaly' for a cup of coffee. The Board of Elections at the time was on the South-East corner of the Square in the Reality Building, next door to the Democratic headquarters, and Congressman Kerwin had his Youngstown office in the Reality Building. Those were wonderful days back in 1960. Oh, and by the way, the Republican Headquarters was also located in the Reality Building

Much to the distress of the management of the Strand Theatre, election night posed all sorts of woes for the theater as that corner of the Square was filled with people racing back from the polling places with their containers of ballots; the news media; the candidates awaiting the results; party hangers on; and people descending upon both Democratic and Republican headquarters for free wee nips of brew and a sandwich or three. It was grand and glorious so it was.
What we have today can not compete with the election nights of yore. When the last of the ballots were counted and the results in, the managers of all the downtown theaters would stop the movies and come onto the stages to announce the winners. It was so grand ... especially for those fortunate enough to be able to be downtown.

I've talked with many people who feel that council leaves a negative impression on the citizens of the city.  People do not want to run if they will end up being the only council member that's not in favor of maintaining the status quo.

Allan sentiment is mutual my friend.
As I drift through the twilight of my life, unlike most of you, I can look back at better days in our fair community, and to be perfectly honest, and perfectly blunt, I could care less about the city as it sits today. I'm as happy as a clam swimming in fine clam sauce as I await that great call from above as he calls out "Are you free Miss Towntalk." I was fortunate to be able to have rubbed shoulders with some of the finest people who were a true credit to our city, and whose memories are preserved in honored places in the Mahoning Valley Historic Society, and I am well pleased with all that I have accomplished, and this is (no offense) more than most of you can claim.
