Jay, stories like this are repeated day after day by people in the arts both locally and nationally, and thousands have benefitted from their generosity. This certainly doesn't minimize what this group did, but who did it truly benefit?
What this proves is that there are good hearted people in Youngstown (or at least people that happened to be there at the time who live in surrounding communities), and we already know that.
The Rust Belt Theater group proved that there are swell folks that live here, so those folks who helped deserve the credit because they proved it in a tangable way, not knowing that there would be a reward awaiting them, but we do thank this group for proving what we already know.
What is sad is the fact that we no longer have have Alias Santa Claus Shows where people in the arts put on a Christmas show whose proceeds go to help the Salvation Army; Rescue Mission; and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Over the years, when these shows were put on, they raisd hundreds of thousands of dollars for these groups, yet this year we read in te paper that these groups have not reached their goals, and this is sad.

See how Mahoning Valley residents reacted to a man asking people to "spare some change - just trying to get home."

The story is at the bottom of the front page of the Sunday, December 22, local newspaper.
