Youngstown city firefighters were honored for the work they did throughout the past year Friday night.

Firefighters, along with their friends, family and several area elected officials gathered at Our Lady of Mount Carmel for their annual awards ceremony.

Six retirees were honored after a keynote speech from Senator Joe Schiavoni. Also honored were Captain Kurt Wright and firefighter Jon Racco, who pulled a man out of a house fire on the East Side last February.

"It was definitely a crew effort, but the situations that come up like that, that you actually are able to remove a victim like that and have the victim survive, I mean, it means a lot," said Capt. Kurt Wright.

Youngstown firefighters were also recognized for their efforts during the tanker spill last February on the 7-11 connector.

This was the 26th year for the ceremony.
