Stephen Gercevich, the teacher who built WKTL would have been proud of these young ladies as well as all the other students in the program, for this is exactly what his goal was when he got the license and organized the station.
WKTL began broadcasting on September 13, 1965. and the station's website claims it was the first all student-staffed radio station in the country.
[/size]The station was conceived by Struthers High School speech instructor Stephen J. Gercevich, a former radio announcer, to "provide a unique laboratory to put classroom techniques to use".
