One of the biggest nights for the Paramount Theater took place on the night of February 25, 1966 when A Patch of Blue made it's Ohio premiere there. The theater was sold out that night ... the sky was lit up by a large spotlight ... the local radio stations did a remote broadcast from outside the theater ... the street was crowed by people wanting to get a look at the picture's star ... Elizabeth Hartman ... it was all Hollywood come to Youngstown. It was a grand and glorious night for downtownYoungstown.
In time there may have been other premiere events, but none ever came close to this one for the movie was up for Acadamy Awards and Miss Hartman was nominated for Best Actress. Unfortunately she didn't win but that didn't really matter toYoungstowners, for the very fact that she was nominated counted for a whole lot. She did win other awards for her performance.
