Title: Just a thought
Post by: Towntalk on August 31, 2009, 01:31:33 AM
Here's an idea.

Traficant will be released Wednesday. Once he's home how about WASN hiring him to do a morning talk show putting him up agaist Mangino or Rivers?

Could he be the next Dan Ryan?

Here's a better idea.

How about you paying $20 for a nice meal at his comming home party then quit having ideas.

The last thing we (the Mahoning Valley) need is Trafficant on a pulpit/ pedestal bringing us down in the eyes of the rest of the world.

I think he would be a great talk show host.  His show should be in the 7 to 10 am or 3 to 6 pm time slots so I can avoid either Mandingo or verb.

First of all Why?Town, I never said that I support Traficant, because I don't, and I have thousands of pages of court documents in my possession to support my views including his sitdown with the Carabbias.

WASN needs all the help it can get to build up its ratings, and love him or hate him, Traficant could generate listeners, the very blood of any radio station if it is to generate advertising revenue.

Obviously Louie Free isn't getting the kind of ratings needed due to his time slot ... running up against Rush Limbaugh.

Put Traficant in the 7 - 9:30 AM slot followed by Louie Free in the 9:30 - 12:00 and the station would have a fighting chance against WKBN.

why is this distain hate towards "Jimbo"? he served his time. my question is how can the people who sang like canaries in the court room are aloud to roam free like innocent chior boys?

Sorry TownTalk,

I misconstrued the meaning of your post.

I know nothing of talk radio.

When I turn on the radio, (in the words of Twisted Sister) I WANNA ROCK!!!

As for Jimbo, I don't hate him. I'd probably even let him buy me a drink. He did his time and should live his life, but I'd rather not have him in the spotlight.

When Dan Ryan introduced talk radio to Youngstown while on WBBW I must admit that I was hooked because he varied the topics he covered and certainly was no Rush Limbaugh or Michael Savage, and was fair to his callers (no name calling or hanging up on them or lambasting them after the call like many talkers do today), yet he had people wanting him to take his show national.

I can understand why many are turned off on talk shows because aside from Dan Rivers, I don't listen to the national talkers whether they are on WKBN or WGFT.

This may sound strange considering the fact that my website was built around talk radio, but I don't need strangers tell me how to think about issues, and I certainly don't need them to tell me what to read.

I might not be right on all the issues, but at least the only one I can blame is myself.

By the same token I owe no absolute allegence to any political party to the exclusion of all the others, because I believe blind loyalty is as bad as apathy.

The one thing I would like to see here in Youngstown is a wider diversity in talk radio with no one station dominating and feel that, like him or not, Traficant could help boost WASN's ratings.

When I look at the Arbatron rating book, WKBN dominates the ratings while WGFT and WASN are at the bottom, and certainly WGFT has some highly rated talk shows.

towntalk i disagree with you concerning dan ryan's talk show. he did hang up on his listeners esp "the austintown woman". the hangups were a daily ritual with today's radio hosts. you had to rattle his chain before he hangup on you. i was in my twenties when i started to listen to him and occasionally called in on his talk show, he showed concern and interested in my comments about the discussed topics.

Dan once told me that he couldn't abide her just as he couldn't take the calls from the John Birch lady from Boardman.

You're right though about these two callers.

By the way, Dan Rivers this morning left open the possability that the station would leave open the possability that they would give Traficant a Saturday night talk show in the 10:00 PM slot if he wanted it.

i would listen to him as long he does not inter with sat nite blues hrs. ;D the taverns' owners across this country will turn against him because the taverns across this nation will be empty till his show was over on a Saturday nite unless they allow their patrons listen to his radio talkshow at the taverns. ;D

Former Congressman Trafficant - I think would be an EXCELLENT RADIO PERSONALITY - I wonder how long it would take for him to go NATIONAL if he entered here locally ?   He would need a very good BUTTON person - if ya catch my drift  :-X .    Wouldn't you love to see him up there with Rush -  just think "Jimbo Lounges R U.S."   ;D  Ya think he could get some "stimulus money" to help get him started ?  STAY TUNED  ;D

rr you never know with jimbo's popularity. jimbo would be interested in the common man's plight instead of half truths that rush puts out on the radio waves.
