Title: 31 Downtown Workers Face Layoffs
Post by: jay on January 08, 2009, 09:35:40 AM
I heard this report on WKBN radio this morning.

Turning Technologies will lay off 31 employees.

A reduction in downtown workers means fewer customers for downtown restaurants.

Geez... that's really disappointing news.  Turning Technologies has been hailed
as one of the up-and-coming new technology companies and, until now, had
been growing at a fast pace.

Since they sell their products worldwide, hopefully they will recover faster than
other businesses here in the U.S.  Youngstown needs more innovative companies
like Turning Technologies that can develop software and tech. stuff locally, and
then sell it everywhere else (ie: export businesses).

:(

Interesting article, as it also mentions that Turning Technologies' sales
rose in 2008, despite the problems with the economy.  I think this company
will be okay even in the current economic climate because the product they sell
is mainly bought by colleges, universities and local school systems.
