Title: Police/Fire Scanner Link
Post by: jay on November 14, 2006, 05:40:43 PM
I noticed that the logo for the Police/Fire Live Audio Feeds appears on the mahoningvalley.info page but not on the forum page when logged in.  I'm trying to direct people to the forum to find the Police/Fire link.  Also, will is be possible for someone to click on the logo to start the police or fire feed?

Working on that now :)

Follow up... I sent a set of new graphics to ForumAdmin to put on the site and I've also asked her to link the graphics to this topic. Once here people can click on the link for whatever they want to listen to.

Dear yfdgricker,

THANK YOU !

You have accomplished the most wonderful thing!  Please let us know if and how we can send you a donation for your expenses.

We already know what fine jobs our fire and police depts do but now we'll be able to actually listen to it.  We'll also know what happens in our neighborhoods.

Thank you again!!!!!!!!!!

If your interested in making a donation to support the live feed and you have a paypal account, my address is gricker@youngstownfire.com. That's probably the easiest way.

I really appreciate it that people want to help support the live feed project.

Thank you very much for providing this service to our community, Greg.
I am very happy and proud that you have chosen this site to be one of your "scanner links."

The link from logo on the mahoningvalley.info page works fine.

The logo does not appear on the forum's home page when I'm logged on.

It is there. I'm stumped.
Do you have
the plus sign
under the mahoningvalley.info  title
to  the right of the date
clicked to show that section?
Maybe I should move it from that section?  Greg designed it so it would fit perfectly there!
FM
PS I think I will add it as a tab at the top too!

UPDATE: not enough room to add a tab as is...will need to revamp the tabs a bit.
Made a text link directly below the tabs. Will get to it sometime this week.

That was the problem! (the plus sign was showing) I guess I closed the member information box to save viewing space.

A tab might be helpful :)

The scanner image is now on the graphite theme.
It looks really good too since it is red and black!

I've added a tab for the scanner feeds at the top of the default forum just in case people don't have the top section expanded.

Well the scanner graphic isn't working in graphite in 800 by 600.
Back to the drawing board.

Greg thank you very much for putting these feeds up! I do have a question though. It says for YPD it picks up channels one, two and three. However when they go to signal three nothing comes though. Is there something i am missing?

That depends on if you are hearing them say signal 3 or if they are saying go to channel 3. A signal 3 is a shooting/stabbing and they stay on the main channel usually. Channel 3, also known as car to car, is a lower powered frequency. Sometimes it's hard to hear cars when they are on channel 3 unless they are in the general neighborhood. A better antenna hooked up to the scanner would probably help get better reception. I'll most likely be changing antennas in the near future.

FYI - The scanner feeds will be down from 4pm to midnight on Saturday 1/13 so I can take the radios to the GYMA After Xmas Xmas party. They will go back online when I get home.

As of 2/20/2007, I've added the Police Intercity frequency to the scanner (155.370). OSP and YPD have been using the joint frequency to communicate with each other during the Special Interdiction Patrol (SIP). Ohio State Patrol units are 800 numbered cars.

I still can't get the scanner links to work, I click on them, and the page comes up and says page cannot be displayed?

It works ok from here. Did you post a message about a problem previously?  Sorry if it was missed.
Maybe it has something to do with your browser set up.
What browser do you use and does it have all the multimedia plugins and add ons enable?

Using Windows, I've never been able to get them to work. I've tried using a mozilla firefox browser also.

I'll reboot the computer Sunday morning and post a reply here. We'll see if that fixes the problem.

Greg,
I really think it is a browser set up issue.  The link works ok for me.

In Firefox go to tools, options, content, file types, manage.  It ill show how files are handled. If you can list the items that handle audio files and windows media maybe we can get to the bottom of the issue. Does it show a missing plugin in the new page when you click the link?

The computer that runs the live feeds is acting up big time. It started a couple of days ago and I keep rebooting it. I have a new computer on order and UPS tracking says it will arrive on Monday. It is my hope to have it set up and running by Tuesday evening. Sorry for any inconvenience. They will be back up and running (and better than ever!)

Yes, we do appreciate greatly all the time and work put into providing us with the live feeds. Certainly no need for apologies. Good thoughts and wishes to you Greg.

The feeds may continue to be down till the end of the week due to a mistake I made in ordering components. Turns out the new PC I bought uses a regular PC hard drive not a laptop hard drive which I bought and same with the memory stick I purchased. So I have a new HDD and Memory that will work in the new PC but it will take 3 days to get here. Again, I apologize. If I can get another computer running as a temp, I will certainly try.

On a side note, there are several fires going on in Youngstown right now and I only know where 1 is because I can't go back and replay the audio I record (it was being recorded by the computer that crashed). Drat!

Happy New Year Greg, Umm, It sounds like your squelch on the scanner might need adjusted.? YPD feed sounds steady static noise. No voice transmissions.
(hope I'm not being a "pain") Really Really appreciate what you do. Thanks

So sorry! I went in and checked on the feed and the squelch was way up. It was stuck on a not very exciting frequency! I dropped the squelch down and I'll check the audio. It may need some adjusting as well.

Again I apologize!

Hello Greg,
The voice transmissions on the YPD feed are coming across distorted/garbled. Thanks for anything you can do.

I had the same problem this weekend.  Friday night and Saturday morning were okay.  Saturday evening is when I first noticed the problem.

It should be working now. I disconnected the scanner Saturday afternoon for a GYMA scanner club event and when I plugged it back in later Saturday evening, I plugged the stereo cable into the headphone jack instead of the mic.

If you still have any problems, let me know here. Thanks!

Hi Greg,
Concerning the YPD feed: A loud constant hum is present when it normally would be silent between any transmissions. Appreciate all that you've been doing. The site is much improved.
Thanks.

I was working on cleaning my radio area and doing some rewiring yesterday. Then after I got everything working and went to bed, we had a 4 hour power outage in my neighborhood. I'll make a few adjustments especially to the YFD feed and see if I can get rid of that.

Hi greg,
YPD feed still has constant hum. Didn't know if you noticed it or not so , just wanted to let you know.
Appreciate your efforts.

I can hear a hum when I have the bass turned all the way up. So far I have tried a new headphone cable, adjusting the radio and the sound card volume. The only thing I don't have extra of are the USB external sound cards so I ordered 10 of those and I'll try changing that out as soon as I get the new sound cards. I tried turning up the volume on the scanner so you didn't have to have Windows Media Player cranked up so loud to hear it. The louder the player is turned up, the more him is present. I'll keep tweeking it and see what I can do.

Thanks.
