Nice seeing you! Do you know how much they raised?

They raised $700.

The winning organization, Circle of Friends, is an awesome effort by two teachers at my son's school, Summit Academy.
The purpose is two-fold:
#1 - to train non-autistic kids and teens how to form and maintain friendships with kids/teens who have Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), using sensory-friendly activities and events. The primary goal is to learn ways to help their autistic friends develop social skills.

#2 - to give kids/teens with ASD's sensory-friendly activities and events to attend where they can meet people who are not on the spectrum, form and maintain friendships with non-autistics, and learn social skills.

Something like this has been badly needed in the Autism community, and it's been a huge success. The money raised will go directly towards helping families with CoF membership fees, activities, and summer camp.

The leaders of this group were interviewed on 33 News a couple of days ago and it sounds like a good idea and should get more publicity so as to bring more people out to these events. This is a private sector effort as I understand it and should be allowed to grow.

If this event proves to be a success, it will be held monthly.  It's a great way to help community groups.

Youngstown Soup is a community dinner that provides micro-grants to creative projects that benefit the community.  At each Youngstown Soup dinner, there is a $5.00 entry fee.  The entry fee gives each person soup, salad, bread, and a vote.  Every person votes for the best project of four selected projects that present at that night's event.  The project that receives the most votes will collect the entire sum of entry fees.  The Board of Youngstown Soup will select the four projects to present for each event.  Winners report their progress at future Youngstown Soup events.
