In the same bill income taxes are going down.

Income Tax Rate Reductions
HB 59 reduces income tax base amounts and rates by 8.5% in taxable year 2013, an additional .5% to
total 9% in taxable year 2014, and an additional 1% to total 10% in taxable year 2015. See ORC 5747.02.
More information regarding corresponding changes to employer income tax withholding tables will be
forthcoming, as these changes will not occur until September 2013. Beginning September 2013,
taxpayers will see a reduction in the Ohio income tax withholding from their paychecks.

There are several other changes, good and bad, for small business and individuals.   It's just a matter of which ones apply to you and how they affect you.

Most taxes are imposed upon us without a vote of the people. A few local tax levys go to the ballot, but when was the last time that at the state or federal level were on the ballot? I can't think of any.

If the state or federal government had to put tax increases on the ballot it would be chaos in the extreme.
Is it fair? No. Is it just? No. But you can take it to the bank that neither the state or federal legislatures will make the change that would place all tax increases on the ballot in anyone's lifetime.

The Ohio sales and use tax rate is going to increase by .25 percent starting September first. The new sales tax rate in Mahoning County will be 7%.

We did not vote on this sale tax increase.  It was imposed on us by the current Ohio administration.
