Title: What is Float?
Post by: jay on June 23, 2007, 06:08:58 AM
I noticed this float symbol recently when I posted a message.  When is it used?

It is a new addition  to the code for messages.  If you use "float" you can integrate photos into your post like a magazine.

Here is the official description for use with a link to an example
After clicking this button, the following code will be added to your post box:
Code:
[float=left][img][/img][/float]
Simply plug in the URL to the image between the image tags.  You can also change float=left to float=right depending on your needs.

A live example of this can be found  at

This is most often used for inserting images that are located elsewhere on the internet as in a photo album.

If you want to use an attached image, you will need to use the MV attachment folder's address which is:
http://mahoningvalley.info/gallery/albums/forum-june2006/IMAGENAMEHERE

so in example:
I want to  insert the flyer for the downtown party last night on the left side of the text.
I would use the image's real address after attachment which is
http://mahoningvalley.info/gallery/albums/forum-june2006/ss6.JPG

the code for that would be:
[float=left][img]http://mahoningvalley.info/gallery/albums/forum-june2006/ss6.JPG [/img][/float]

You can experiment with where it goes in the message- usually at the top.

It is not a big improvement, but if you were writing an article post and wanted pictures embedded instead of at the end lined up, it is a nice little add-on.
