Title: City Schools Closed Again
Post by: jay on February 22, 2011, 06:21:00 AM
According to the TV news, the Youngstown city schools have taken another snow day today.  Almost all the surrounding school systems are only operating under a 2-hour delay.  Why does the Youngstown school administration close the schools more than any other system?

Probably to reduce their operating costs... neighboring school districts likely have
more operating budget...

Jay, a ton of school districts closed, including nearby Austintown and Boardman. The roads, although drivable this morning, were not in good shape for kids to be walking in.

It doesn't matter now on $$$.  The state law requires all districts to make up more than 3 calamity days a year.  YT already has many more than that.  AT is already at 4 days...only because they did 2 hr delays.  So in the  big picture, YT will have more operating costs at the end of the year when they must pay to keep the kids in school longer.
