Title: Grumbling Citizens
Post by: Towntalk on August 13, 2010, 06:47:32 PM
Back on February 4, 1906 folks were so vocal in their grumbling about the city that the following poem was published aimed at them.

THE KNOCKER MAN

Did you ever hear the knocker man,
Sing his song of discontent?
Never knows a virtue not his own,
Never pays a compliment.
He's the meanest mortal on this earth,
Always growling, kicking, sore,
Everything is bad, in his own mind,
He sees failure, nothing more.
The creator had his reasons, sure,
Making such a measly man,
We all cheer up while thinking,
That we're not built on his plan.
Listen all ye to the knocker man,
Knocking, knocking, all the time;
Speak well of others he never can'
With him knocking is sublime.

[Disclamer: This poem has nothing to do with anyone today, so don't even go there. It was published on the date listed above.]

A well and true flashback.
