Jay:

You're absolutely right. If the Playhouse wants to relocate to Boardman so be it, BUT the city should not give them dime one.

With all the needs that the city has, the money would be better spent on those needs, and not on the Playhouse.

I have nothing against the Playhouse, it serves a purpose and has a great history, but it's not a necessity ... we can do without it ... and with the country in deep recession an armature theater group is not a necessity.

Look around at any part of this city and you will find projects that are more important that need to be addressed.

As to the building, where was the board of directors all these years when they knew that the Playhouse was deteriorating? The leaking roof, and the inadequate heating system didn't just happen yesterday.

Will Youngstown's economy rise or fall with the loss of the Playhouse? I doubt it, and with the other two groups that call Youngstown home, there won't be a loss of places to go to see live theater.

If the Playhouse board is intent on moving to Boardman, why would the city of Youngstown want to use stimulus money for the Playhouse.

jay

According to a newspaper story, the Playhouse has closed and owes the IRS.

Question
Didn't the city of Youngstown provide money to the Playhouse within the last ten years for extensive remodeling?  If so, how much did the city provide?
