New development, Vindy.com reports that our professor John Russo makes 108K per year.  Sad, for over ten years I use to admire this guy, then he attacked me out of no where and called me a real estate cheat.  This punk is exactly what is wrong with Youngstown, an entitled professor making this kind of money off of us taxpayers.

In the FB debate Phil Kidd refered to, I cannot help but notice and my suspicion has been verified in writing.  Phil's first post was militant and verbally abusive, ala Mao.  Then you have a hit and run tactic by John Russo, also name calling which really surprised me, a YSU professor.  Of course I let myself get dragged into the mud and this is what they want.  Eric Planey of the Chamber joins the debate and refrains from verbal abusing.  Phil then shows his immaturity and claims to want to debate but continues to demonize not just me but all those who want debates recorded.  Finally a true Capitalist intervenes, Jim Pirko, he does not name call but quiets the rabid dialogue down by inviting me to the Landbank meeting.  Phil seems to gather himself and actually becomes civil again towards me.  Now comes the part that disturbs me the most.

Out of nowhere this "Defend Youngstown" storm trooper jumps into the debate and not only does he attack me, on FB, he starts messaging me hate mail on my FB account.  This disturbed "Defend" member writes me hate messages and notice his FB page wherein he and his bandmembers are armed.  And to top it all "Hagan" jumps in and "likes" this guys comments. yes "Buckwheat" himself.  Yes People, now it is recorded what type of people fill the ranks of the "Defend Youngstown Movement", I fear this movement unchecked will spiral into civil unrest.  And Phil, he seems to do nothing about denouncing this behavior.  Phil and the MVOC, likes publicity  , yesterday, talking to officials downtown and guest at Poland's library, many silently are beginning to see through the facade of community organizing.  One can refer to past debates on this site and decide for yourselves.  Thankfully, free enterprise always defeats socialism and we because of our oil discovery are at the beginning of Youngstown's second wind!  Finally, it is inevitable that the Wean foundation will begin to notice what they are funding.  I noticed that one foundation that supported the YNDC (MVOC morph) funded my Klezmer music project, I will talk to them about what they fund.

I for one support the efforts of Phil Kidd and MVOC and welcome the return of a sensible voice to this thread of the forum.

I also believe that a number of posters have been tolerated by the moderator for a period of time and continue to welcome free debate with the return of CIVILITY BY ALL PARTIES WHO CHOOSE TO POST HERE.

203 hits, hell Shout Youngstown, Defend Youngstown, Cityof Youngstown, CDA blog, defunct Mayor's blog, defunct Youngstown Renaissance, etc.  , combined they do not even get this type of action.

So Forum members, the inference that this site is weak is ...........BS.  This site rocks because even Governor Spisak is tolerated.  This site swings because we here do not let propaganda and wanton agendas get in the way of whats good for Youngstown.  Our Forum Manager knows when to step in and throw crap out.  This forum is truly where Apple pie Americans gather.

So, Ron said there was a hot debate over here on MV.info forum that I needed to check out. 3 people (including Ron...who has posted 5 out of the 8 posts), eh? And I fall for his hype / b.s. yet again...

Well, being that I'm here, I guess I thought I'd share what's being discussed on this topic over on the City of Youngtown Facebook page. I don't visit this site much any longer (because it's the same 5-10 people on every topic thread...wonder why?) so I'll just leave you with this.

FYI: I suppose it bears repeating (again) that MVOC is PRIVATELY funded. The organization raises its own funding through local, regional and national foundations that CHOOSE to support its work. There are NO TAX DOLLARS that fund any portion of MVOC's operations. Translation for Ron:  No "pork". BTW: The organization was just awarded another $500K by the Wean Foundation today. Those are dollars beyond their initial contact agreement with us. The Wean provides about half the funding for MVOC. They are also largely invested in the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (named a national model for older industrial neighborhood development), the Neighborhood SUCCESS Grant Program as well as the new Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership (the YNDC of Warren).

City of Youngstown Facebook Page

Ron Eiselstein (opens thread in response to MVOC vacant property report):
Sad, it is just getting worse no matter how much money we throw at these programs that they tell us will lift our City up.

Phil Kidd:
says one of the most notorious bad property actors / tax deadbeats in the area. How ironic.

Ron Eiselstein:
Typical socialist can't debate, start name calling.

Phil Kidd:
What's to debate? Your property and tax situation is public record / knowledge and your reputation throughout the community is terrible at best. Do we need photos, maps and testimony? Not a problem if so. We have it. Further, I have offered... to debate you PUBLICLY on several occasions in the past...and you refused / sidestepped each time. You don't like me, Ron, because I don't buy /see through your bs. So does the rest of the community who has had the opportunity to interact with you. You can be a hypocrite and call me whatever you'd like but it doesn't change the above. You are reaping what you (continue) to sow, plain and simple.

Ron Eiselstein:
Right Phil, just like you ran away from the most active site in the Valley (Mahoningvalley.info), you can't debate you have no production record. When are you going to start paying property taxes? Of course your entitled community doesn't... like my Free enterprise community, we make, you take. What's the matter, the digital revolution is defunding your ACORN movement? Ever since you came to town, the City as your study shows is getting worse, you need to get a real job and produce something. Oh, are you going to cry to this FB owner to ban me, only socialist purge opposition. Sorry grants are drying up.See More

John Russo:
Outstanding report. Well researched and your conclusions are on the mark. No wonder the real estate cheats are coming out from under the rocks and calling you a socialist. How dishonest given your work with the Business Incubator and the Chamber. (3 People Like This)

Eric Planey
The Chamber (and myself personally) has always appreciated the work of MVOC and Phil Kidd. Having an organized and structured way to tackle the most difficult issues of Youngstown and Warren - inner city blight and population loss, will do so much to improve the ability to bring in jobs and economic development to the area. You dont work in free enterprise, but you work to free enterprises from our recent past history. (1 person likes this)

Ron Eiselstein:
John, I have a copy of your book in my library for almost ten years now, I learned from it. I take it your post above is directed at me, please do not tell us that Mt. Calvary, Gleaners, Atty. Alan Kretzer and many others are real estate c...heats as well. I am sad that you too engage in name calling. As long as you don't call me "Hop Sing."
Phil, let's stop all the name calling and have the debate now, we already have been debating the MVOC for two days at the site mentioned. No matter, here is fine. Subject: Landbank, enlighten us, how is this to work? The most idle unproductive land sits in the City landbank for 50 years producing zero not even taxes, how is the county landbank going to be different?

Phil Kidd:
It's over, Ron. Your spin has only dug you a hole in this community. Chickens coming home to roost. However, if you want a debate, you got it. But it will be face-to-face like men. Website debates are for cowards. You don't want face-to-fa...ce / public because you know I'll smoke you on cross examination. BTW: MVOC awarded (another) $500K for its work. YNDC recognized as a national model for older industrial neighborhood development. Finally, I just like to note how what I've done with Defend Ytown always conviently dismissed in Ron's ranting. I created a product (website, t-shirts), marketed and distributed it thousands and have connected many people / inspired them to get involved in the process. The irony of this situation is that I only exist because people like you do, Ron. Let me know if you want that debate. Look forward to it. (2 people like this)

Jim Pirko:
‎@ Ron: The new Mahoning & Trumbull County Land Banks are designed to clear foreclosure mortgages, other liens, and "clouds" from titles, then expedite properties back onto the market for rehab or demolition/redevelopment. If you want to kn...ow how this will work, please attend the Mahoning Valley Real Estate Investors Association (MVREIA) meeting on Monday March 14 (6:00 to 8:30 pm) at the Fifth Season Banquet Hall, 1400 State Route 46 (at Countyline Rd) in Mineral Ridge. The Leaders of our New Mahoning Valley Land Banks: Trumbull County Treasurer Sam Lamancusa, Mahoning County Treasurer Lisa Antonini, and Lien Forward Executive Director Debora Flora will be there to discuss these new land banks, and how rehab-investors can participate.

The legislation that made this possible (HB 313) was a major priority of the Ohio Real Estate Investors Association. The Ohio Legislature agreed to most of our concerns and modifications that will make this law more effective, by including private sector investors creating jobs by turning abandoned blight into productive properties. Blight destroys the property values for rehab-rental investors, as well as for home owner-occupants. We need to coordinate our attacks against blight, or everyone loses.

I agree with Eric Planey and our Regional Chamber, and appreciate the work of MVOC and Phil Kidd. They are working for solutions to problems that have been neglected, destroying our region over the past four decades. Too much time and money has been squandered on ineffective placebo programs, with old-thinking politics getting in the way of progress. We can thank Phil Kidd and MVOC for bringing some original thinking, and hours of effort, into the battle.

Ron Eiselstein:
Jim, I was present eight years ago when the county had a brite idea written exactly as you outlined above, to sell tax certs. to private concerns. I was present five years ago when Lien Forward was a bright idea to convert all these tax ce...rts. to end taxpayer users. Same song, now different players. Obviously the problem is much worse today. Today when one wants to clear up property, one must begin with ATF, who may have sold some annual certs. to Centina, or Optimum, or yet, Net. All these entities are all over the country and are an example of big government. Now we are going to add another layer to be called a landbank who is going to exist by the late fees. Hell, the old tax cert. program is even better than this because taxes were discounted and late fees were not even an issue when an end user wanted the parcels.
People, we are going way out there, all we need is what we had originally, the treasurers office and the prosecutors behind them. I'm going to make it very simple, property taxes are not paid because NO ONE WANTS THE PROPERTY, there has been no demand. All the property that was in demand, were already transfered the old capitalism way, supply and demand.
Now here is another recent development why a landbank is already obsolete before we throw more money at the problem. The oil comapanies are in town, they have placed and army in the county basement and the going rate per acre (signing bonus) is $2000, it was $1500 when they finished the drilling in Lake Milton last Nov., this does not include the royalties when they drill. Ask Planey, they had them speak at the Chamber (he should concentrate on Oil not Aliens). Chesapeake and Trinity want 640 acres for each site, this means they want every parcel in Mahoning county. I met with Tablack and Yemma and Tablack came up with the idea that this revenue can pay taxes and demo every shack we want down. Jim don't believe me?, ask V&M Star.
Right now as we speak, investors are buying up every inch of land in Mahoning county and the City. I will provide parcels of acreage and vacant lots being gobbled up right now if you call me Jim. The so called leaders aren't saving us, God has blessed us with the UTICA OIL shale, land is in demand again and taxes will be generated.

Of course, Kidd and his MVOC will not be needed anymore from here on, we are booming right now like Fort Worth, Texas. I'll also bet, that the City landbank which owns the most land in the City will not surrender their land to this new landbank but rather deal with the oil companies directly. This is why all this hate from Phil exudes, he exist to defend Youngstown, now Youngstown is rich again and its land is priceless. I have a truck coming to my store so I won't be able to attend the slumloard assoc. as Phil would say but I will advise.

"Long Live Capitalism!" "Long Live Free Enterprise!"

Phil Kidd:
Ron: Get your wife (or anyone else) to deal with the truck for one evening for crying out loud. For as much as you complain about the land bank (which, by your posts above, it is absolutely clear you don't understand how the land bank / new... state law works), you need to be there. Every single person associated with the land bank in the Mahoning Valley will be there. I'll be there as well. Show up or shut up.

"LONG LIVE PRODUCTION & ACCOUNTABLITY!" "DEFEND YOUNGSTOWN!"

Stewie, glad to see your intellect shine.  You are observant, the MVOC are beginning to wither away, funding is drying up and most Americans are rejecting the ACORN model of organizing the entitled who we support , to vote against the principles of free enterprise.  Don't worry, us capitalist are coming in like a tidal wave and with our production of energy and the creation of revenue, we are going drag the entitled into the ditches to work for their free lunch here.  The digital revolution is here, smaller government is demanded and the great City of Youngstown's Entitled Machine is collapsing as we speak.  Notice how they are silent, there first defeat was when they let the Trojan horse V&M Star come through the gates.  This Capitalist Giant is now dictating to them.

I'm beginning to come to a conclusion here, an epiphany.  After pulling my hair out and trying to reason with the likes of Spisak, Phil Kidd and the rest of the Mahoning county socialist, I am seeing the light.  One engages in honest debate and they roll over into name calling and smearing, you then question why intelligent people will behave this way.  It has finally dawn on me that these actors do not want progress, they want power and when you question their behavior and bring forth innovative ideas, this negates their existence.  The MVOC as with ACORN is created to organize a community into following their dictates, they are building their alliances for collectivism.  Notice how their own report shows the City getting worse and their projects insignificant to counter the decay.  But Alas!  This is their reason for existence, the failure of the City and to come with them as they seek the answer that they never have, and never want.

Ya know Shrimp, your post......is actually right on point.  I would actually like to see one actual accomplishment that they do other then "organize".  One of the problems that I have noticed is that with all of the neighborhood groups and so forth that they have formed a new problem is showing up.  They all have their own agenda and may actually be further dividing the city.  .... But seriously pay your taxes....

irishbobcat

Paid your taxes yet, Shrimp?  We're still waiting......

Help Youngstown....pay your damn taxes NOW!

I don't know if I should laugh or cry, watching how the unqualified have got us so brainwashed that they actually believe and say once property goes into a landbank it will come out with taxes paid and generating revenue, amazing.  Do we actually believe this crap?  What happened to selling all the county tax liens to multimillion dollar companies who were going to clean property up also?  What happen to our dollars going to Lien Forward who were to clean all these liens?

Simple truth people, they all want more Pork, the only answer here is the private sector creating value again for our unwanted property.

Youngstownshrimp

Here is another way to look at things in our City, could it be that the MVOC exist if we are in chaos?

irishbobcat

How many back taxes have you paid up shrimp?

Youngstownshrimp

All over the media this morning, the press addicted MVOC and it's morphed entities have created another news event which sadly says the same old thing, "Youngstown is Bleak", no %#$&!  Led Zeppelin sang it best, "the song remains the same."  The Mayor and the entourage were regurgitating the same soundbites, we here are not stupid, we can see the problem everyday and we don't need to spend money and energy to tell us it is getting worse, we see it everyday.

Here is the solution leaders, not by any efforts of yours, V&M is here, God gave us all this oil.  Have the county tax department pass an order of some sort that all revenue from property mineral rights go toward taxes before disbursements, DONE!  Slap D'Avignon and the rest of our employees over there and organize the leasing of all the City Landbank property to Chesapeake or Trinity Energy, Boneheads, they will give you CASH in 90 days! Is anyone home, hello?  Once the leasing is done they will start drilling for oil and money will flow into our City.

People, people, people, the goal of the Landbank you say that will save us, is already packaged for you, THE OIL COMPANIES WANT OUR LAND AND THEY WILL GIVE US BIG MONEY, THEN YOU CAN FIX HOUSES UP, PAY TAXES AND DEMOLISH EVERY SHACK YOU WANT,GET IT?

I'm sorry people but I just can't believe the stupidity here, the front page of the Vindy, our leaders are crying that we need more bldg. inspectors, taxes, landbank, so we can generate revenue, I guess the oil prices at the gas stations don't register either.
