Title: Television
Post by: Towntalk on April 24, 2013, 07:40:49 PM
Commercial television as we know it dates back to 1944, but didn't really take off till after the war when a number of radio staions applied with the FCC for television licenses. WFMJ for example built their radio station in the 1930's and designed their master studio large enough that in the future it could be converted to a television studio, and in 1948 it stared preparing for a future TV station, but at the same time WKBN was also preparing for a TV station, and in January 1953 it would finally go on the air, while WFMJ would go on the air in February of that same year.

QUESTION: What are your very first memories of watching TV?

WFMJ was sold to WHOT April 23, 1990. At that time the call letters were changed to WRTK.

WFMJ is still on the air under the call letters WNIO and a Clear Channel station.
