14 businesses raided in Mahoning County
Story by Patricia Meade from the Youngstown Vindicator on March 1st, 2007.

Raids were conducted at 12 convenience stores in Youngstown and two in Campbell today by the Ohio Organized Crime Investigation Commission with agents looking for stolen goods that were being resold.

Attorney General Marc Dann said items such as baby formula and tobacco, for example, have been stolen from large stores and warehouses for resale. In some cases, foodstamps were used to buy the baby formula, he said.

The items are considered to have high resale value.

Charges could range from receiving stolen property to RICO, Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization, Dann said. He said indictments will be issued in Mahoning County.

Officers and agents representing 12 federal, state and local agencies participated in the raids.

Locations raided in Youngstown: Augusta Market, 632 Augusta Ave.; Belmont Food Mart, 911 Belmont Ave.; Lansdowne Red & White Market, 1721 Lansdowne Boulevard; Six Brothers, 1010 Oak St.; Petra, 1354 Elm St.; Petra, 2402 South Ave.; Belmont Drive Through, 1840 Belmont Ave.; Stiles Market, 1922 McGuffey Road; Logan Gas Mart, 1704 Logan Ave.; McGuffey Speed Check, 1050 McGuffey Road; Ohio Gas Mart, 2637 Glenwood Ave.; and Ally Food Mart, 3216 South Ave.
