There was at least one large scale solar array out west that went bankrupt and was dismantled because it DIDN"T WORK.  Many of its panels were available on ebay for a long time.   I think one of the problems is that the desert is a long way away from people who use electricity.

Gotta love Fox News.... they are so anti solar power their business editor explains that solar power won't work in America,
where we have deserts, because we have less sun than Germany.
