There has been at least 3 fires that I know of there. The one today, one back on 8/21/03 that I went and took photos at and a 2nd alarm on 8/21/2002.

After the 8/21/03 incident, I noticed the company had a monitor nozzle and hose which they would set up on the pile and pour a steady stream of water on the components. I also remember hearing on the news or the paper that they were having some type of problem getting railroad cars in fast enough to haul all their shreddings away.

It was reported on the news that this has been the second fire to take place in a pile of shredded car components in the last few years.  Why isn't the company forced to disposes of these combustibles as they accumulate?

The Youngstown Iron and Metal facility on Division Street had a fire this morning. Crews were called out around 6:30 this morning. Heavy fire and smoke were showing on arrival. Crews were still pouring foam on the fire at 10 this morning. More details will be posted at http://www.youngstownfire.com as they become available.
