------------cut and past------------

Greetings!

Glad to hear there's interest in hosting a Creating Democracy workshop in the Mahoning Valley. The workshop looks at the history and current status of the relationship between citizens and corporations in our claimed "democracy." It examines how the entity that is known as the business corporation, a legal creation of the state, attained legal and constitutional rights shieling them from democratic citizen control (there are a couple of participatory exercises that help reinforce the breath and absurdity of it all). We discuss the many forms of organizing to resist and challenge this most fundamental form of corporate power (both past and present) and share what is going on in our part of the world both politically and economically regarding "legalizing democracy" against corporate rule.

Some (if not most!) of this may sound "legalistic" and pretty intimidating but we do our best to present materials interestingly with hope and spirit - and leave plenty of time for (dis)cussing. The truth is most of the material  (history, analysis, strategies, etc.) never passed our way while in school, at the union hall, while watching TV, or in neighborhood meetings. We seek to unearth what has for too long been buried - and to use it as we seek authentic self-governance in our communities and country.

Feel free to contact me if you have further questions. Hope there is enough interest there to make it happen.

Greg
