I hate to keep bringing up my hometown, but it has a first run movie theater ... population 8000 ... one of the old theaters was twinned and it is doing quite well thank you ever so much ... so the new hotel could take a page out of the old Tod Hotel book and open a small twin theater seating 200 each.

I think that in a few more years, a small movie theater might be viable
downtown, if the apartments keep coming and the hotel becomes a reality.

Maybe something that could hold just a couple hundred people..., no more ?

Unfortunately the old Foster is beyond saving even if that area could become crime free. The cost of restoring it and putting in new digital equipment would be too high. Most studios do no longer use the old film technology and those working theaters have a hard time digitizing especially in small towns like my hometown.

If the Idora neighborhood continues its recovery, who knows..... maybe
some day it could be a regular movie theater again.

Remove the guns and create more soft targets.....

Wouldn't it be better to let these nutcases know that there will be at least 2 people watching the movie that are carrying a weapon? And probably more...

Unfortunately the Foster is a mere shaddow of its old self. In its hayday, it was a beautiful well kept theater. As to it ever having family programs again I doubt it 1. Because of the neighborhood, and 2. because of the porn videos that they sell. No family would ever want to go there even if they did return to art films (art films are films that were made by low budget studios usually foreign and film versions of opera's. In most cases these films would earn a PG.). A group wanted to reopen the Uptown Theater to show "family oriented pictures", but for the very same reason that fell through.

a couple of years ago the owner of the foster theater wanted to show both family and adult films on different nights. I do not know how this panned out or it was her personal thought that was over-ride by the other owners.

Do we have any theaters operating in the city?

The last time I passed the Foster on the south side of Youngstown it appeared to be closed.

I wouldn't exactly call the Foster Theater a "Movie Theater"... definitely
wouldn't wanna take the wife and kids there.... unless, of course, they
no longer show pornographic material and cater to perverts in the
"theater".

Metal detectors should be installed in movie theaters just as metal detectors are installed in Youngstown City Hall.

With so many shootings in theaters, are you still going to the movies or are you using Netflix  or some other source to see movies?
