Title: Reaching The Goal
Post by: jay on December 03, 2009, 06:01:49 AM
The United Way has several of these progress indicators in the Youngstown area.  With the downturn in the economy, do you feel the United Way will reach its goal for the year?

Six divisions between 25% and 50%, and six divisions between 50% and 100%.  Maybe this means nothing to everyone else, but I would prefer that a little more thought go into designing their "thermometer".  I know this is an insignificant point but for an organization raising 2.5 mil someone could have spent 5 minutes of thought designing the sign. No?

It's going to be tough.

Here's just one example of why:

Every year General Extrusions on Lake Park Rd. had a big United Way drive with incentives to employees that gave above a minimum donation from each paycheck (about $4 per check last year). The company also matched the employees donation.

In Oct. 2008 they had about 275 employees, today they have about 60 employees at that facilty. Considering that they auctioned off most of the equipment, those jobs (and dontations)won't be comming back.
