Title: Crime Suppression Unit
Post by: jay on May 20, 2008, 06:52:57 AM
Expect an announcement about the newly formed Youngstown Crime Suppression Unit.  It will be staffed by members of the YPD, Mahoning County Sheriff and the FBI.  The goal is to exclusively work the city's crime hot spots between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m.

So is this a response only unit, or are they going to be out on the street the entire time? Also, is it only going to be YPD patrolling, with the Sheriffs Dept and FBI doing support work, or are we going to have federal agents patrolling the north side?

When the mayor spoke at the Block Watch Summit last night he gave the impression the Crime Suppression Unit would not be responding to calls.  The team would focus on the crime hot spots all over the city.

Is this Crime Suppression Unit working?  We have had a lot of shootings and killings in the last few weeks.
