Title: "Kress Building Facade"
Post by: Youngstownshrimp on April 24, 2014, 09:12:32 AM
I just found out I know the demolition contractor of the Kress building.
I asked him about the facade and can it be saved?  Well, I guess if someone is serious and wants to put up the money to buy the pieces of the facade, it can be preserved.
Where are the "save the Paramount, save the Kress building" people, I'm listening?
Oh, Phil Kidd should make an investment and resale the facade, I'm serious.

The pieces of the façade would be--essentially--free.  The labor to carefully remove the pieces of the façade is what the purchaser would be paying for.  After all, if the contractor can't find someone to buy the pieces of the façade, they will just have that much extra debris they will have to pay to dispose of.

I say this because I've heard (no hard evidence, just what I've heard!) that the contractor was already approached by someone who offered to do their own work to remove pieces of the façade.  And, I understand why they were told "no;" it would be a liability nightmare.

Yes, I understand that offer was made.  In the business world, this is a rediculous offer.  First of all, a contractor has a contract for hundreds of thousands of dollars.  And, a big part of his business reputation is timeline and liability.  For an individual, to inject himself in this business contract with debateable value is a thorn in production.  Flatly, amatuerish.  But this is what socialist mentality refuses to grasp come up with a business approach, anyone can be lazy and demand.

Who was it that made the offer, do you know?
Just curious.

I believe it was Jacob Harver, but I don't really know.  There is a Kress Building page on Facebook, and one of the items posted is a letter signed by Harver.

Also, it appears some kind of deal was made, as the "Kress" name has been removed from the building.

Oh because Mr. Harver has so much money going around to throw at something else in Downtown. Let's see how long this burger joint lasts. Judging by what I saw yesterday evening, it probably won't be longer than 1-2 years.

That's a shame, because their burgers really are quite good, IMO.

With the removal of the Kress Building, we now get to see the ugly side of City Hall and the City Jail Building.

:P

;D  Perhaps our friend westsider could favor us with some photographs of the sight.  ;D
:-* He is a master with a camera, and many of his photographs are worthy of hanging in the Butler Institute of American Art.  :-*

I understand that the Kress lot will become a parking lot for those who come downtown to pay their water bills.  Is the lot going to be restricted to that use or can anyone who has business in City Hall use the lot?

I've wondered this myself.

They are using funds from the water bills to pay for the lot. Thus, in order to make the use of these funds to pay for the lot legal, there must be a purpose tied to the water department. Seems rather sketchy to me and perhaps this law should be revisited soon by the state.
