Although I completely understand the rationale behind encrypting police/fire broadcasts, I just have to share how much I miss listening to the dispatched calls. Living alone on the south side it helped me to be aware of what was going on around me, especially at night. Quite comforting actually, as well as interesting. There were even a couple times, when I was aware of a chase/search, I looked-out and was able to call and inform dispatch of the direction / area the person was that they were tracking. It helped me to know that my family members living in various parts of the city and the police/fire people I know were safe as well. In general, I'm just one of those citizens that enjoyed "listening-in" for all the right reasons and purpose. God bless our Fire, Police and EMT's.
