sarge other political punits and the ohio league of women voters would disagree with you. if you can download the the broadcast from the radio/television station called, "sounds of ideas" last frday you will have a total different answer to this question.

QuoteThird party organizations, especially ACT, ACORN, and NAACP engaged in a
coordinated "Get Out The Vote" effort. A significant component of this effort appears to be
registering individuals who would cast ballots for the candidate supported by these
organizations. This voter registration effort was not limited to registration of legal voters but,
criminal investigations and news reports suggest, that this voter registration effort also involved
the registration of thousands of fictional voters such as the, now infamous, Jive F. Turkey, Sr.,
Dick Tracy and Mary Poppins. Those individuals registering these fictional voters were
reportedly paid not just money to do so but were, in at least one instance, paid in crack cocaine.

in the oh history there has never been voter fraud but there has been voter registration fraud.

sfc_oliver

And we all know that there has never even been a question about voter fraud in Ohio.

What did happen to ACORN by the way?

in all the years that the usa exixted the vote was never squashed as much by this id process. this is another way to keep the voters away from the polls. the gop are great in telling usa citizens the sky is falling esp in ohio. the sad part of this debate ohioans will believe that there is a massive voting fraud that exist in oh through gop gobbel propagranda.

Rick Rowlands

I don't either.  If a citizen can't be bothered to obtain a FREE ID card, then obviously that citizen isn't engaged enough in the process and frankly I don't want that person making an uninformed decision.  A citizen's vote is valuable and it should be protected just as you would protect your identity.  Do not let someone steal your vote and do not let someone vote who is not entitled to and thus dilute your participation.

sfc_oliver

I must be missing something. I simply do not understand how requiring an Identification card is a problem.

i see alot of wasted time and money on this endeavor to squash the vote in the 2012 primary.

Rick Rowlands

"An individual who cannot afford to pay the fees prescribed in division (A) of this section, including any lamination fee, may apply to the registrar or a deputy registrar for the issuance to that individual of an identification card or a temporary identification card under this section without payment of any fee."

It further allows that a voter who shows up without the proper ID on election day can cast a provisional ballot and sort it all out later. In addition, absentee voters who mail in their ballots will not be required to provide a photo ID.

I would support this legislation.  It is better than the current convoluted voter ID law.

On Tuesday, the Ohio Senate will consider what's been called one of the most restrictive voter ID bills in the country. Unlike other Voter ID laws, HB 159 would not allow students to use photo identification issued by state universities, could impose criminal penalties on those who forget to bring their IDs and will not educate voters about the changed rules, which could mean dramatic voter suppression.

The measure's supporters have failed to present Ohio taxpayers a price tag for these restrictions, but some estimate the costs could exceed $20 million.

Tell your State Senator to vote No on HB 159.

Making matters worse, HB 159 took a very crooked path through the legislative process. The bill raced to passage in the State House in March with very little public input. Then, last week Senators tried to sneak the provisions into a larger election reform bill, leaving it without the public hearing scheduled for the very next day. Common Cause Ohio and other voting rights groups made a stink at the Capitol Building and in the media, resulting in HB 159 being separated back out.

But this restrictive measure is still being rushed through, and is already set for a full Senate vote on Tuesday. This steamroller must be stopped.

Urge your senator to vote NO on HB 159, a restrictive, costly and unnecessary voter suppression bill.
